Old Quilts, New Life book launch

Super star quilter, Sarah Fielke, has a fabulous new book out. Old Quilts, New Life contains 18 step-by-step projects inspired by quilts from the American Folk Art Museum. As part of Sarah's book launch we've got a sneaky peek at what's inside the book and an insight into Sarah's all-time favourite antique quilt.

Old Quilt's, New Life is full of eye-candy and with 160 pages of detailed text and imagery you can't fail to be inspired by it. The following pictures are taken from Sarah's new book and we think you'll agree that they are beautiful. This first photograph shows Sarah next to her Ebb and Flow quilt featuring Rowan Shot Cottons. This quilt is Sarah's modern re-interpretation of the Triangles and Flying Geese Quilt by artist unidentified (1875-1900).

Sarah loves to draw inspiration from quilts from the past and is a master at breathing new life into traditional designs. Flash is Sarah's direct interpretation of the Sunburst Quilt probably by Rebecca Scattergood Savery (1770 - 1855).

Sarah has included many opportunities to test your needle-turn applique skills, this beauty being one example. I've Got Sunshine is Sarah's direct interpretation of the Sunflowers and Hearts Quilt by an unidentified artist (1860-1880).

We asked Sarah to share her all-time favourite quilt with us and this is what she said. "I have a LOT of favourite antique quilts but I think my all-time favourite is the Bird of Paradise Quilt Top. As it's in the collection of the American Folk Art Museum I did consider it for this book but I felt like the pattern is just about a book on it's own. The appliqué just kills me, I love it. I'm working on my own version of it for some time in the future..."
