In the pink for Breast Cancer Care

Our friends at Ernest Wright and Son Limited have designed a pair of pink handled scissors to raise awareness and money for the charity, Breast Cancer Care. The scissors will be available for purchase from Friday 16th October. Read on to discover why Ernest Wright and Sons chose to support the charity in this way.

On Friday 16th October, Ernest Wright and Son Limited, a family owned scissors manufacturing company based in Sheffield, are launching their partnership with Breast Cancer Care – the only UK-wide specialist breast cancer support charity. They are teaming up to create a pair of pink handled dress making scissors, to raise both awareness and money for Breast Cancer Care. This partnership came about when their treasured friend and colleague, Pam Addy, was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Pam said, "When I heard those 5 words 'Pamela, you have Breast Cancer, our world was turned upside down. I say 'our; because although I was the one with cancer, the diagnosis affected all my family. After finding a lump in my breast, I saw my doctor, who explained that I was to have a mastectomy and my lymph nodes removed. With so much going through my mind, my husband Steve and I came up with our own 5 words "One step at a time".

"Although I recovered well from my mastectomy, the chemotherapy sessions took their toll, and losing my hair, my eyebrows and my eyelashes just broke my heart. Regular check-ups at the hospital followed for the next 5 years, after which I was finally given the all clear. I have a mammogram every year, and I continue to check my breasts regularly. I know I am one of the lucky ones... I am a breast cancer survivor."

"I didn't know what support was available for me when I had breast cancer. However, Breast Cancer Care are here now, and I want to ensure that everyone who needs care and support throughout their breast cancer journey knows that they can turn to Breast Cancer Care."

In support of Pam, Ernest Wright and Son Ltd. were inspired to design their Pink Scissors, which will be available for purchase via their website as well as in their shop on Broad Lane.

Nick Wright, Managing Director at Ernest Wright and Son Limited, says: "We're a Made in Sheffield business, and our lovely Pam is a steely lady. Breast Cancer Care's northern office is based in Sheffield, and they work in the heart of our local community, supporting those who are going through what our Pam has gone through. Creating our 'Pink Scissors' is a great opportunity for us to give something back."

Rosie Mellor, Community Fundraiser at Breast Cancer Care, says: "We are incredibly grateful to Nick, Pam and the whole Ernest Wright and Son team for their tremendous support and generosity. The funds raised through this partnership will go towards providing vital care, support and information to anyone affected by breast cancer, every day, from day one.

Breast Cancer Care is the only UK-wide charity which provides care and support for anyone facing breast cancer. For further information on the services available in your local area, you can call 0345 077 1893 or visit www.breastcancercare.org.uk.
